California Momnibus Act
SB 65 “California Momnibus Act” was signed into law by Governor Newsom in October of 2021 to improve racial disparities in maternal and infant health.
What does it mean for you, your family, and community:
- This law will build a more racially and ethnically diverse midwifery workforce, investigate the cause of infant and maternal deaths, examine if people are using the Medi-Cal benefit that pays for doula services, and make it easier for people who are pregnant to receive cash assistance from CalWORKs.
Why this should matter to you:
- We must get to the bottom of why there are such high rates of Black infant and maternal deaths. We must also ensure that Black people giving birth have access to culturally centered care from Black midwives and the additional financial support to take care of basic needs.
How you can access benefit/resources:
- To access Medi-Cal and CalWORKs benefits, find your local county office here.
